Biofortification with ZnO NPs as nanofertilizers to improve sustainable commercial and phytochemical quality in basil plants

Biofortification is the process of developing a crop with bioavailable micronutrients in its edible parts. This has been done using nanofertilizers, since they can be used to feed plants gradual and controlled manner. Therefore, aim this work was evaluate effect foliar application ZnO NPs different concentrations on commercial phytochemical quality basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) crop, as it one most important aromatic for chemical pharmacological properties. Four (5, 10, 15 20 mg L-1) control treatment under completely randomized design, were evaluated. The results show statistical differences morphological parameters (leaf stem fresh weight, height, number leaves, leaf area dry weight) slight tendency increase treated mainly at concentration L-1. highest chlorophyll content (5.54 µg g-1 FW) obtained treatment, whereas lowest (4.14 observed L-1 treatment. However, carotenoid leaves markedly higher than control, had 0.84 FW, while registered value 1.08 FW. total phenolic, flavonoid, antioxidant capacity vitamin C NPs. Finally, could stimulate enzymatic activity, demonstrated study. Detailed studies are suggested understand mechanism action nanoscale materials.
